Yep. With today being the official last day of summer, I can say without a doubt it is truly CROSS SEASON!!! With that being said AVLCX has run off number 2 in our series. The battle ground this past Saturday was at Kolo bike park. The weather was anything but cross weather as hot temps greeted the riders. Kolo bike park is built on a golf course that has been reduced to 9 holes from 18. The terrain is unforgiving and there is not a lot of time for recovery. Fast hard packed grass sections into beach sand type red dirt. The riders did not seem put off by this and each race was ridden with much aggression as some riders are using this series to really start tuning up for the rest of the season. As for the remainder of The AVLCX series we have 2 to go!!! 2 to go!!. We could not be more excited for our final 2 races of the year. The next race will take place on Sunday October 4, REEB Ranch cross pb/ AVLCX. Thats right AVLCX has joined forces with our friends at Oskar Blues to bring you what will not be just a cross race, but an event as well. Bikes, live music, and some beer, well lots o beer.. If you feel like your doubling your pleasure, Saturday October 3, Blue Ridge Adventures will be hosting the Dirt Diggler gravel Grinder. Camping is allowed at REEB and they will be throwing a party Saturday night so grind on Saturday and Cross on Sunday. This will the first time here for AVLCX so come be a part of history. This could have the potential to turn into something even bigger to continue to grow Cyclocross in the Southeast. And for the closing race, thats right Pisgah Brewing. This has always been one of the more rowdy and exciting race course in our series. October 11th. So back to weekends of cyclocross action!!!! Call it a mini-beer series.. AVLCX can not express the gratitude that we feel from the CX community. Every year the number of riders keeps going up in our races and the “stoke” factor keeps getting bigger and bigger. AVLCX is a small group of individuals who have one mission statement. Bring cross to the people. We could not do this without your continued support of our series. Who ever has come out race, or drive stakes into the ground, pull down course tape, etc… WE say thank you so very much… Keep training and we will see you in a couple of weeks.
