” Fly By Night “

Greetings one and all!!! We here at Asheville Cyclocross would like you to know that the Owl is doing just fine and dandy. I know there a lot of folks out there already starting to think about cross, well we have got you covered. May 27th at Carrier Park we bill racing for the 6th year at the Mountain Sports Festival. After coming off the high of Cyclocross Nationals lets keep the ball rolling. You can go to pre-reg.com to sign up. In other news AVLCX welcomed a new board member. John Smith. Over the years John was always willing to take time to help AVLCX with race setup, tear down, or whatever it took to get things done. It only made sense to bring John on to help with pushing forward toward another great season. Also Ed Moreadith is a first year “stagiaire” with AVLCX. It will be nice to have Ed on board because an extra pair of hands is always welcomed. Ed has been racing and riding bikes in all disciplines for many years and will help bring another layer of organization.

Last years season was one of our strongest yet. The Pisgah cross race had one of the best turn outs ever in the 5 years we have been racing there. Bent Creek Park was a great success and our first year racing at REEB ranch had a slight set back with the original date being canceled due to a “Noah’s Ark” type rain event. We re-scheduled during Thanksgiving and had somewhat decent turn out. The good news is we will be back again at REEB and hopefully the weather will agree. We will be once again hosting our clinics at Bent Creek Park. Last year Tristan Cowie, Reid Beloni, and Josh Whitmore graciously donated there time in helping lead the clinics. We had record turnouts for those as well. Just when we think things might plateau a bit the numbers and excitement for cross keeps growing. We could not do this without your support. Speaking of support AVLCX has brought on a new sponsor for this year. Jon Sarver of Sarver Realty Group has come on board to help support AVLCX. For those who know Jon, he is a super nice guy who enjoys finding homes for “everyday” folks here in Asheville. We could not be happier in partnering with Jon. He supports local just as AVLCX does. This year our strong partnership with I-9 will continue. Dave and Heather do a great job in promoting the kids race. I-9 has been a valued partner and we love supporting each other in the community. We are super excited about the upcoming season and we hope to you all out there this year. Regards AVLCX.
