Asheville Cyclocross at Mountain Sports Festival 2014

Registration is up and running with Pre-Reg.  Beginner Men and Women start at 6:00 pm, Men’s B and Women’s A/B at 6:45, and Men’s A at 7:40.  Under the lights and with live music.  See y’all out their.

Cyclocross & Running Unite!!!! AVLCX has joined up with FootRX to bring you XC races at all of the cross races this Fall. How about them apples? Our quest to bring like minded people together continues. This is going to be awesome!

Sept. 7 – Bent Creek – 75 Entrant Limit – 10:30am
Sept. 21 – Carrier Park Night Race- 6pm
Oct. 13 – Pisgah Brewery – 10:30am
Come one, come all, whether you cycle or run (or do both). ALL AGES & ABILITIES WELCOME!

- Two running races on the Cyclocross Course at each event… Youth (9 & under) ONE lap of the course
- Non-Youth – As many laps as you can complete in 20 minutes (generally each lap is about a mile)

Newly crowned World’s Broze Medalist, Jane Burlew and World’s Silver Medalist, Brian Sheedy will be on hand for photos and bizarre World’s storytelling! Finger foods and fine beverages will be provided.



Donation Totals In Only Two Years!

So we have been doing races for two years around the Asheville area.  Our goal is to get more people on bikes and having fun.  In only two years we have been able to donate over $3500 to local groups like Trips for Kids WNC and Bent Creek Community Park.  This couldn’t be possible without all of you participating in either racing at our racers, buying our products, showing your support, or being a key sponsor.  Thank you all and we are proof you can do amazing things when you work together on a common goal.  Looking forward to 2013 being even bigger, better, and more donation heading out the door….:-)

Night Race This Saturday, Nov 3rd

Don’t miss this one of a kind cross race. CarrierParkis a great place to hold a cross race.  Tons of parking, easy viewing of the race for spectators, close to downtownAsheville, and of course LIGHTS!!!!  The racing will head into the darkness with major watts a blasting.  This course will have sand, barriers, an old speedway, playground for the kids, FREE kids race, custom 1st place trophies from Drew over at I9, food by DOGS, etc….  You can register early by clinking on the pre-reg link and save a few dollars or register at the race on Saturday.  See you all real soon!  Also, friend us on FB and get all the last info on AVLCX racing and other events we go to.

Pisgah Brewery AVLCX Cross Race 

On Sunday, Oct 14th we hold one of our most popular races of the year.  This is the race where cyclocross and a brewery truly come together for a day of great racing and a lot of fun for everyone.  The first race starts a 11:30am and the last race starts at 3:00pm.  Food, racing, music, beer, and a lot of fun for all.  You can also check out live coverage at http://www.cyclingdirt.org/coverage/249809-2012-AVLCX-Pisgah-Brewerys-CX.

Oct 14th Race Update

We have been working hard to bring you one of our best races of the 2012 season. The first 75 who register online through pre-reg receive a free beer ticket. 1st place trophies for all classes will be a custom wood trophy. Reggae band is booked for entertaining you all after the racing is over. We will have a food vendor to help feed your belly. This is going to be one bad a** race!!!!!! Don’t miss this one!

Sep 23rd Race Report

Blue Ridge Cross Fit will host our Sep 23rd race!  This is a fun and very fast race.  Great course for beginner to try cross for the first time.  Registration is up for you can register online and safe a few dollars or register at the race.  Pisgah will be providing the adult refreshment.

FREE CX Clinics

On Wednesday 6/29/2012 we will be hosting a FREE CX clinic for first time riders or anyone wanting to brush up on their skills.  We will have real and PVC barriers for dismounts, stairs for shouldering practice, and of course a little happy hour afterwards put on by AVLCX.  If you’re new to the sport this is a perfect opportunity to learn a few of the basics, meet some of the people involved in CX, and get some great pointers for FREE!  This is open to everyone.  You do not need a cross bike.  All you need to bring is your bike (mountain, road, cross, whatever you have) and your smiling face.

Please note the Pisgah race in Oct has a new race date.  We have moved the date from Sunday, Oct 7th to Sunday, Oct 14th.  Better date for us and them.  The race will once again be during the weekend of Oktoberfest.  Come to Asheville for the weekend and finish off the fun with an AVLCX race / festival at Pisgah Brewery!

Very exciting news!  We would like to announce our new official partner.  Trip For Kids WNC http://tripsforkidswnc.com/ has allowed us to join them as a non profit and continue an even bigger quest to help get more kids and parents on bikes.  Here we come 2012!

We “Asheville” Have Made The Top 3 List For Cross Nationals In 2014 & 2015

We have been waiting for USA Cycling to publicly announce this news.  They finally did today so we can now open our mouths to the awesome news! Asheville is on the top 3 cities list to host CX Nationals in 2014 & 2015 at the Biltmore Estates.  USA Cycling will start the quest to find out which city is rad enough to host this amazing event.  We hope it’s us!  Now that the cat is out of the bag, we will keep you up to date as we know more.

Race Is Off For Tonight Wednesday, Nov 16th

We hate to broadcast bad news, but here it goes.  Tonight’s race that we work so hard on making happen has been canceled due to reason out of our control.  This is a major bummer and we wish there was a way we could have gotten around the problem.  Trust me when I say, this is not what we wanted.  If you registered for this event there are a few option.  Jason at pre-reg is an awesome guy and is working very hard to make sure your taken care of.  Here are you refund options

  • Receive the refund in the form of cash at the registration table at this weekend’s NCCX races in Hendersonville.
  • Have your entry fees applied to an NCCX event.
  • Have your refund mailed to you.

$1500 Purse For This Wednesday’s Night Race!

This Wednesday night is the last race of 2011 for Asheville Cyclocross.  We couldn’t think of a better way to end an awesome first year of racing.  How many opportunities do you have to race your cross bike at night?  We are not talking about some candles on a course and headlamps.  The course will be on fire with lights.  We’re talking about grass, barriers, sandpits, fast straights, tight turns, and high speed passes on the old Asheville Speedway track.  This is one for the books.  Come on out and show off your skills.  The total payout for the Super Modified men and women’s race is $1500!  Some serious cash!  We also have custom trophies for the top three in each class.  You don’t want to miss this race.  It will be one for the books!  Online registration is open on pre-reg.  Click the link on the right side of this page.  See you on Wednesday night.  FYI…we will have Mr. Hot Dog serving food, Izzy’s Coffee serving the bean juice, but this is a BYOB party.  Use you plastic cups.

Registration Is Open For The Nov 16th Night Race 

All you have to do is click on the pre-reg link on the right side of the page and save $5.  Mr. Hot Dog will be serving food, Izzy’s Coffee will be grinding the beans, we have some super meg awesome trophies, a big payout for the super mod classes, a playground for the kids, sand pits, an old race car track, a softball field, a few trails, and lights, lights, and more lights.  A great race to warm up the legs for the NCGP on Nov 19th & 20th.  Come to the great town of Asheville and have some fun on and off the bike.

It’s On For Nov 16th!

Permits in hand!  The night race at Carrier Park is on for Wednesday, Nov 16th.  The race falls between the USGP in KY and the NCGP in Hendersonville.  This will be one for the books.  Again, Mr Hot Dog will have his truck on site for food and we added someone new.  Izzy’s coffee will have their coffee truck on site to poor up some awesome bean juice!  This bad boy is going to be a full on night race so bring your A game.  No holding back for this one.  We have some cool new trophies along with maybe a good size payout.  Check back often for more details.  HOO!!!!

FREE Cyclocross Clinic Thursday Sep 1st at 6:30pm

If you have been interested, reading about, or have been hearing the buzz around town about this bike racing thing they call cyclocross, this is your time to learn what it’s all about.  Local bike shop Motion Makers in Asheville will be putting on a FREE cyclocross clinic Thursday, Sep 1st @ 6:30pm at Carrier Park behind the track.  You can participate one of two ways.

1 – Meet at Carrier Park with your bike behind the track by the river.

2 – Meet at Motion Makers and and ride your bike to Carrier Park from their shop.  The ride leaves at 6pm.

If you can, we would highly recommend option 2.  Motion Makers is going to start their Labor Day Sale on Thursday vs. Friday for all of you participating in the FREE clinic on Thursday evening.  Show up around 5:00pm and buy yourself something new for your cross bike.

Rumor has it some very knowledgeable cross racers will be helping with the clinic.  Any bike and any level of rider is welcome.  Don’t miss an opportunity to pick someone’s brain about how to get better at something.  The more people the better
